DODOMA: Tanzania has granted its independent commission investigating the October 29, 2025 unrest an additional 21 days to complete its work, allowing more time to review extensive public submissions and evidence.
The extension, announced in a government gazette dated April 4, moves the deadline to April 24 and is intended to support a more comprehensive and inclusive investigation process.
The commission said the decision follows a strong public response, with a higher-than-expected volume of submissions, reports and exhibits continuing to be received, reflecting broad citizen engagement in the process.

“The Commission continued to receive substantial public submissions beyond expectations,” the statement said, noting that additional time was needed to ensure all inputs are carefully examined.
The extension will enable detailed analysis of evidence, completion of forensic examinations and thorough review of newly submitted materials, as well as finalisation and translation of the report before submission to President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The move marks the second extension for the commission, which began its work in November 2025, and reflects the scale of the inquiry and the emphasis on delivering a well-grounded and credible report.
