ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan on Tuesday directed newly appointed senior government officials to accelerate public service reforms, fast-track strategic infrastructure projects and uphold integrity, using a swearing-in ceremony to outline key priorities for government institutions.
Speaking at Tunguu State House after swearing in two Deputy Permanent Secretaries and witnessing four senior public officials take the Public Leaders’ Integrity Oath, the Head of State said the appointments reflected the government’s confidence in the leaders and challenged them to deliver results through professionalism, accountability and teamwork.
She instructed the Vice-President’s Office responsible for Union Affairs to strengthen the management of Union matters and ensure emerging issues are resolved through dialogue and cooperation to safeguard national unity.
Dr Samia also tasked the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance with improving the management of public servants and creating a conducive working environment to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
Emphasising infrastructure as a driver of economic growth, she directed authorities to expedite the implementation and management of strategic railway, road, port and maritime projects while exploring opportunities to expand the operations and commercial viability of Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL).

President Samia also called for stronger coordination in addressing environmental challenges and directed the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) to enhance the protection and management of wildlife resources and national parks, saying they remain critical to tourism and the economy.
She instructed the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs to expand legal aid programmes to improve access to justice, while directing the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) to intensify the promotion of locally produced goods and improve the management of trade exhibitions.
Turning to the media, the President challenged the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), to strengthen professionalism, improve operational efficiency and produce high-quality content that reinforces its role as the national public broadcaster and a trusted source of information.
The officials sworn in were Dr Latifa Mohammed Khamis, appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Vice-President’s Office responsible for Union Affairs, and Ms Prisca Lwangili, appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance.
Those who took the Public Leaders’ Integrity Oath were TBC Director General Ms Asha Dachi, TanTrade Director General Mr Ephraim Mafuru, Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) Director General Mr Salum Mnuna and TANAPA Conservation Commissioner Mr Massana Mwishawa.
President Samia reminded the officials that public office is a responsibility to serve citizens, urging them to uphold integrity, fairness and accountability in implementing the government’s development agenda.
