MOROGORO: SUGARCANE farmers supplying sugar factories may soon find it easier to register for tax as the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) moves to cut red tape and simplify access to Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs).
TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Mwenda said the authority would form a team of experts to spend 30 days examining farmers’ business operations and reviewing sugar factories’ databases to determine the best way to make TIN registration easier.
The initiative aims to help farmers meet their tax obligations without being held back by unnecessary administrative procedures.
Mwenda announced the plan during a recent visit to Kilombero Sugar Factory in Morogoro Region, where he reiterated TRA’s commitment to creating a more business-friendly environment.
He said the authority would continue working to improve tax compliance procedures and address challenges that make it difficult for businesses to operate smoothly.
“This is part of TRA’s efforts to improve the business environment and remove challenges that could affect economic activities,” he said.
Mwenda also praised Kilombero Sugar Company for complying with tax laws, noting that cooperation between TRA, sugar factories and farmers was important to the growth of the sugar industry and the wider national economy.
During the visit, he also met businesspeople in Kilombero District to hear their concerns and explore ways of addressing challenges affecting their operations.
He assured taxpayers that businesses would not be closed because of tax-related issues, emphasising that TRA aimed to work with businesspeople to help them fulfil their tax obligations while sustaining and expanding their enterprises.

He said the authority would continue engaging businesspeople and strengthening communication to resolve their concerns, while encouraging voluntary and timely tax payments.
“TRA will continue providing tax education to people across the country to enable them to understand their rights on tax matters,” he said.
Kilombero District Commissioner, Dastan Kyoba, urged businesspeople to cooperate with TRA and comply with tax laws and procedures to grow their enterprises and contribute to the development of the district and the country.
Kilombero Sugar Factory Finance Director Fakihi Fadhili commended TRA for its efforts to improve the business environment.
He said the factory continued to contribute to the country’s sugar supply in line with the objectives of the National Development Vision 2050.
