DODOMA, Tanzania: THE national carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) continues to explore the possibility of introducing direct Zanzibar–Dodoma flights, the National Assembly was told yesterday.
Deputy Minister for Transport Mr David Kihenzile said flight will be introduced once passenger numbers increase enough to ensure at least 80 per cent occupancy.
He was responding to a question by Shaurimoyo Member of Parliament Mattar Ali Salum (CCM), who wanted to know why ATCL has not introduced direct flights from Zanzibar to Dodoma. Responding, the deputy minister said currently, ATCL operates flights from Zanzibar to Dodoma via Dar es Salaam.
He said the decision to route flights through Dar es Salaam is based on commercial considerations to ensure that the aircraft achieves sufficient passenger capacity.
