VIENNA: Austria has committed five million euros (approximately 15 billion Tanzanian shillings) to support Tanzanian companies integrating renewable energy technologies into agricultural value chains.
The funding, provided by the Government of Austria, will be channelled through the Vienna-based Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) under its PURE Growth Fund initiative.
REEEP Director of Strategy and Development James Smith said the programme will help Tanzanian enterprises scale up food production by adopting renewable energy solutions such as solar-powered production systems, cold storage facilities, agro-processing technologies, electric transport and bioenergy systems.
The initiative will run from 2026 to 2029. Several Tanzanian companies have already submitted applications, with evaluations under way. A technical team is expected to visit Tanzania in March 2026 for verification.
The PURE Growth Fund aims to promote private-sector-led deployment of renewable energy in agri-food value chains, reduce investment risks and attract additional private capital into small and medium-sized enterprises.
Officials at the Tanzanian Embassy in Vienna said the funding reflects growing economic cooperation between Tanzania and Austria and aligns with Tanzania’s broader industrialisation and sustainability goals.
