DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Tanzania has strengthened its trade information and market access systems, connecting more than 26,000 users to regional and international markets, the Ministry of Industries and Trade has said.

Through TanTrade, the government has modernised its trade intelligence infrastructure, helping companies navigate export and import procedures more efficiently.

More than 26,314 users accessed the Tanzania Trade Portal for guidance on documentation, customs, and regulatory compliance, while the ITMIS system and TanTrade Business App delivered real-time pricing and market data to 5,116 traders nationwide.

The national “Made in Tanzania” mark has been registered for 30 products and services from eight companies, and a database of 698 firms has been coordinated to enhance their participation in domestic and international markets.

The measures aim to boost the visibility, credibility, and competitiveness of Tanzanian products abroad.

Industries and Trade Minister Judith Kapinga said, “Access to reliable market information is critical for businesses, especially youth and small enterprises. By linking them to domestic and global markets, we are strengthening Tanzanian products and promoting the ‘Made in Tanzania’ brand internationally.”

The government has also used international platforms to connect Tanzanian firms with buyers worldwide.

At the 2026 Zanzibar International Trade Fair (ZITF), a business clinic reached 356 stakeholders, while 15 companies were integrated into the eTrade system, linking them to the World Trade Point Federation to explore export opportunities.

Across East Africa, countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda are investing in digital trade portals, market intelligence systems, and export certification to improve competitiveness and reduce barriers to cross-border trade.

Key statistics for international readers:

  • Tanzania Trade Portal users: 26,314
  • ITMIS/TanTrade Business App users: 5,116
  • “Made in Tanzania” products/services registered: 30 from 8 companies
  • Companies in national database: 698
  • Stakeholders reached at ZITF 2026: 356
  • Companies integrated into eTrade for global market access: 15

Tanzania’s approach, combining trade data, certification, and global linkages, positions its companies to meet international standards and expand their reach in regional and global markets.

The initiatives also support youth entrepreneurship. Access to accurate market data enables young business owners to plan production, optimise supply chains, and target high-demand markets, increasing their chances of success in both regional and international trade.

The Ministry said such measures seek to support broader economic goals, including revenue growth, job creation, and the expansion of the formal private sector, while raising the global profile of Tanzanian products.
