ARUSHA, Tanzania: ARUSHA Regional Commissioner Amos Makalla has commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for fulfilling her pledge to initiate the implementation process of universal health insurance within the first 100 days of her second term in office.
Makalla made the remarks during a visit by the Minister for Health to the Arusha Lutheran Medical Center (ALMC) in Selian, noting that the move is a fulfillment of a promise made by President Samia during the October 2025 General Election campaigns.
He said the successful initiation of the universal health insurance process is a result of President Samia’s strong commitment, compassion, and courage in ensuring that citizens access quality healthcare services without barriers.
Additionally, the Regional Commissioner praised the significant contribution of religious institutions in improving healthcare and education services across the country, expressing appreciation to religious leaders for their continued provision of social services to Tanzanians.

Makalla noted that cooperation between the government and religious institutions dates back to the period following independence, emphasizing that these institutions have consistently provided services without religious discrimination.
“I sincerely thank religious leaders. This is the Tanzania I know and the Tanzania founded by our national forefathers. Since independence, the government and religious institutions have worked together in providing health and education services. This cooperation enables Tanzanians to access services regardless of their religious affiliation at both Islamic and Christian institutions,” Makalla said.
