DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzania has advised citizens to exercise caution and reconsider travel to parts of the Middle East following a sharp escalation in regional instability and security risks.

The foreign ministry issued a security and travel advisory covering countries including Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Officials said developments in the region are being closely monitored and that consular assistance may be limited depending on local conditions.

“Tanzanians in the region are urged to exercise heightened caution, comply with directives from local authorities and avoid non-essential travel at this time,” the ministry said in a statement.

Citizens were advised to remain indoors where possible, monitor official information channels and keep travel documents secure and accessible in case of emergency. Authorities encouraged Tanzanians abroad to follow updates from diplomatic missions and emergency notices.

The ministry provided contact details for embassies in Kuwait City, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Tel Aviv and Ankara for emergency assistance.

International media reports indicate that regional tensions intensified after a joint military strike by the United States and Israel in Tehran. Iranian officials reported the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, a claim not independently verified.

Iran subsequently launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes against several Middle Eastern countries, including Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan and Oman, according to reports. The escalation prompted temporary airspace closures and flight suspensions by international airlines, disrupting regional travel.

Authorities in affected countries have urged residents to exercise caution and comply with security directives. Global governments are monitoring the situation as concerns grow about further escalation and humanitarian consequences.

Tanzania’s foreign ministry said it will continue to provide updates and consular support where possible.
