DODOMA, Tanzania: The Mining Commission has set new strategies to strengthen the contribution of the mining sector to national economic growth, following a review of its performance over the past three months.

This was reached during a Commission meeting held today, January 30, 2026, in Dodoma, chaired by the Mining Commission Chairperson, Dr Janet Lekashingo who noted that the meeting focused on receiving and discussing the Commission’s quarterly implementation report and on putting in place firm measures to enhance the sector’s performance.

The meeting, which brought together Commissioners and Management focused on improving oversight of mining and mineral trading activities, enhancing revenue collection, developing mineral markets, and curbing mineral smuggling, with the aim of increasing the sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product.

At the meeting, the Chairperson received reports from the Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, Eng Ramadhani Lwamo, and chairpersons of the Commission’s committees, she commended the achievements recorded, particularly in revenue collection, management of mineral markets and newly established buying centres, improved security in mining activities, increased participation of Tanzanians in the sector, and the contribution of mining companies to community development.

Moreover, she directed the management to continue designing and implementing innovative strategies to boost government revenue from various sources, with the goal of surpassing the 1.2tr/- revenue target set for the 2025/2026 financial year.

The meeting also discussed challenges facing the mining sector and agreed on implementation strategies through the Technical, Human Resources, Finance, and Tanzanian Participation committees.

The measures aim to ensure miners operate in a safe and supportive environment that enables sustainable income generation, while maintaining the mining sector as a key pillar of the national economy.
