DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania: Tanzania is leveraging sustainable mining practices to spur economic growth and attract investment, officials said at the 25th anniversary of Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML).
Deputy Minister for Minerals Dr. Steven Kiruswa praised GGML for its environmental stewardship, tax compliance, and community engagement, describing the mine as a model for responsible mineral extraction.
The gala, attended by government officials, diplomats, and business leaders, featured storytelling initiatives highlighting local communities benefiting from GGML’s operations. Terry Strong, AngloGold Ashanti’s Africa Vice-President, called GGML one of the company’s top-performing mines in Africa, citing operational discipline and long-term community engagement.
Officials said partnerships like GGML’s are key to Tanzania’s strategy of combining mining sector reforms with sustainable, inclusive development that attracts both domestic and international investment.
