ZANZIBAR: THE Tanzanian government has implemented ten environmental conservation and climate resilience projects in Zanzibar worth 97.6bn/- between 2020 and 2025.
The Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President (Union and Environment), Dr Festo Dugange, revealed this in the Parliament on Wednesday in Dodoma when responding to a question from Mtambwe MP Rashid Habib Ali, who sought to know how Zanzibar benefits from donor-funded environmental projects.
Dr Dugange told Parliamentarians that the projects have brought tangible benefits to communities by increasing income through alternative livelihoods, enhancing local capacity for environmental conservation, and strengthening resilience to climate change.

Additionally, he said that the projects have contributed to economic growth, sustainable development, and overall community welfare.
The report further revealed that Tanzania has received funding from international climate and environment funds and various donors, including the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the World Bank, and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
He said that the funds have been used to implement various environmental conservation and climate resilience projects across both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
