DODOMA, Tanzania: TANZANIA and Brazil have pledged to further strengthen cooperation in strategic sectors of mutual interest, including health, agriculture, trade, investment, education, as well as defence and security.

The commitment was made on January 29, 2026, in Dodoma during talks between the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Ngwaru Maghembe, and the Brazilian Ambassador to Tanzania, Gustavo Martins Nogueira, held at the Ministry’s offices.

During the discussions, the two leaders reviewed the state of cooperation between Tanzania and Brazil over the past nearly five decades and agreed to continue strengthening and elevating it to higher levels so that citizens of both countries can benefit.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr Maghembe thanked the Government of Brazil for its support in implementing cotton sector projects, namely Beyond Cotton and Cotton Victoria, and emphasized the need to initiate more projects.

He said the projects are focused on supporting cotton farmers by adding value to the crop and its products, as well as improving overall productivity.

Additionally, Dr Maghembe requested the Government of Brazil to collaborate with Tanzania by contributing funds for the implementation of a project to combat Sickle Cell Disease, and to finalize discussions on the implementation of the Maternal and Newborn Health Project in Zanzibar.

He further called on Brazil to cooperate with Tanzania in developing sports talent and sharing its experience in organizing various sporting competitions as part of preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027), which is expected to be hosted in the country in 2027.

On his part, Ambassador Gustavo Martins Nogueira thanked the Government of Tanzania for continuing to be a close partner of Brazil in strategic areas of mutual benefit.

He also commended the Tanzanian government for participating in major international meetings held in Brazil, including the participation of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, in the G20 Summit of Heads of State and Government.
